Blissful Ordinariness

An interaction that is made between an occupational therapy practitioner and a client is considered to be a therapeutic relationship.
Occupational Therapist's focus very heavily on having a good therapeutic relationship with each client. This relationship is what makes Occupational Therapy so special from other professions. When client's come to therapy, it is the OT's job to create a strong therapeutic relationship which will overall allow clients to achieve his/her everyday goals. The key to success for an OT practitioner is finding the "blissful ordinariness" of the clients everyday routines.
In simple terms: what is meaningful to the client and what does the client enjoy doing every day?
In order to figure these things out, it is important for the practitioner to dig deep into each patient's story. OT's gather an idea of an every day routine for our patient. Their focus is not on an individual injury or disability but, on on the experiences that come from the injury. OT's assess how the injury is affecting the client's "blissful ordinariness" and provide a plan to help them return to that life. After a successful interaction with the OT, the clients will overcome the obstacles that occurred from his/her illness and flourish while completing real life activities that are meaningful to them.
